Development and application of a new technical assistance product “ One Village Industrial Clusters “ as a vehicle for economic growth and poverty reduction

The project included providing handholding support, guidance and advise of the implementation of the action plan in two clusters of Ethiopia and to provide the CDAs of these clusters with regular inputs from Experts who will also help in monitoring the progress of the action plan.

  • CDAs (and local stakeholders) acquainted with the cluster methodology  collective efficiency approach.
  • Inputs provided for the formulation of the OVIC methodology
  • 4 networks in Luwero and 3 networks in Kisoro established and fully sensitized and trained on the advantages of collective activities and actions.
  • Two skill development training programmes were conducted and about 30 artisans have been directly trained as ToTs in these residential programmes. The ToTs have in turn trained more than 100 artisans in all the networks.
  •  A whole range of new bamboo products hitherto not known to the cluster were introduced on the basis of a market study of bamboo products.
  • The artisans have been imparted skills designing new products drawing inspiration from nature.
  • A total of 7 networks and 2 Apex Co-operative Societies have been established.
  • For the first time in history, artisans have learnt the technology for treating of bamboo with chemicals for longer life of products and preventing of powdering after some time.
  • A total of 60 ToTs has been directly trained in new techniques and products in both clusters. The ToTs in turn have imparted the skills to more than 200 artisans.
  • A Raw Materials Bank established in Luwero Cluster.
